'Right now...': Wolves fans won't like what Carlos Corberan said in response to manager rumours

Wolves are potentially lining up a replacement for Gary O’Neil who is on the verge of losing his job at Molineux.

O’Neil will be given the West Ham in charge, but regardless of the result, the Wolves boss could be shown the exit door with another manager thrown straight in.

So far, Wolves have held talks with Graham Potter, the talented English tactician who has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.

David Moyes is another candidate to have appeared on their radar, but according to Liam Keen, neither Potter nor Moyes wants to work under Fosun’s regime.

On Friday, it also surprisingly emerged that West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is the favourite to replace O’Neil in the dugout at Molineux.

It was news that didn’t go down too well with Wolves fans, who despise their arch-rivals, with the Spaniard now issuing his response to the rumours.

Carlos Corberan doesn’t rule out replacing Gary O’Neil at Molineux

Ahead of West Brom’s crunch clash against Sheffield United, Corberan was asked about the rumours linking him to the Wolves job.

Corberan didn’t give too much away with his answer, insisting that his focus is on Saturday’s match, but he also never ruled out any possibility of doing the unthinkable and switching clubs.

“I came here just to be focused on giving you answers to questions on the game we are going to play against Sheffield United. For me, it’s a very important game and all of my concentration is on this. I just want to give answers related with this topic,” the 41-year-old said via journalist Dan Salisbury-Jones.

“We are playing one game on Sunday that is very, very important for us. We are preparing well because we know Sheffield United are a team who are competing at a very high level. Right now, they’re the best team in the league, even without the points deduction. All of my concentration and focus is on this.

“I am a little bit far from any type of rumour or speculation or talks. I have learned the best way to make my job is to be focused in my job. The best way to do things is to focus on the things that I can control.”

Wolves have already ruled Corberan out of replacing O’Neil

Fortunately, for any Wolves fans worried about Corberan potentially replacing O’Neil at Molineux, they’ve already essentially ruled out any chance of that happening.

It was revealed that Wolves are looking for a manager with Premier League experience, and although Corberan worked as an assistant under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, he’s never taken full charge of a top-flight side.

The Valencia-born tactician has only managed Greek giants Olympiacos and EFL sides Huddersfield Town and West Brom.

At the Baggies, they’ve won just one of their previous 10 Championship matches, although nine of those have remarkably been draws.

While they are in the mix for the playoffs and are defensively sound, Corberan seemingly isn’t a candidate to take over in Wolverhampton as they eye a manager with Premier League expertise.
