This was always possible going into the weekend. It didn't take long for confirmation to arrive, either, as news reports about a postponement came quickly in the morning.
Now, this is one we consider a win for Liverpool. The Reds have been battling injuries of late and could really use a week off here.
So that's a reason to celebrate. However, it's something that could come back to bite Liverpool down the line.
After all, the derby needs to be played at some point - and the games come thick and fast. Fortunately, Liverpool know their fix.
Everton vs Liverpool postponed
Liverpool could use the break now and we can't anyone finds space in the calendar in 2024. Everton vs Liverpool almost certainly moves to 2025 now - but where?
Liverpool are in four competitions, Everton are in two. There's also supposed to be time off at the end of January. Neither team wants to lose that break.
But there's a place where space could open up. Liverpool are currently pencilled in to play UEFA Champions League Play-off fixtures in February as part of the new format.
However, Arne Slot's side can skip that round by finishing in the top eight of the League Phase. That's something they're well on course to do as they sit on top of the pile.
A win over Girona this week would massively boost their chances of finishing in that top eight. There would be just two games to go, with eight teams needing to overhaul the Reds in order to push them into the Play-off round.
And if Liverpool do finish top eight, they'll have some room in the calendar for the Everton game. Beat Girona on Tuesday and everything looks fixed - then Slot and co. can truly celebrate the postponement.
