Bournemouth suffer injury blow

AFC Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi suffered a quadricep injury during the astonishing 4-2 victory over Wolves at Molineux. Last Saturday he hobbled off in the 82nd minute to be replaced by Dean Huijsen.

His young understudy continued as centre-back and scored the winner in the narrow victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.

It is uncertain how long the 27-year-old Argentinian will be unavailable as he is still awaiting further assessments by the AFC Bournemouth physio and medical team.

Senesi joined the Cherries in August 2022, from Feyenoord for an initial £10.5million. He has gone on to make 82 appearances, including 73 appearances in the Premier League. The defender has scored 6 goals in the top flight of English football and 5 assists.

AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo…

“I cannot give you exactly (how long) because we still have to do more assessments, but it’s a muscle injury in the quad.

“We were in doubt in the moment against Wolves, he was in doubt, he didn’t know if it was just the knock, a big knock, or was a muscle injury.

“And now we are pretty sure that is a muscle injury.

“I think in the quad is quite significant. So probably he will be out for some time. But before I can give you more info and more exact things, we still have to do more assessments.”

Last season Senesi was equal top with Christie for assists with 5. He started nine fewer games.

Also, he was our fourth-highest scorer with 4 goals, the most among our defenders.

He is a very important player in our team.

Obviously, Huijsen was excellent but we have to remember we didn’t play our usual game last night…..we might really see how much we’ll miss Senesi in the next few games….he’s been really instrumental in this sustained run of form under Andoni….hopefully Huijsen will be able to adapt but very few defenders read the game as well as Senesi …..asking a lot of a 19yr old to have that football intelligence. – To join the conversation, click here.
