Wayne Rooney suffers fresh blow hours after Coleen breaks down in tears on ITV's I'm A Celebrity

Wayne Rooney will no longer be able to watch his beloved Everton play this weekend after the Merseyside Derby suffered the same fate as his Plymouth Argyle side did against Oxford United due to Storm Darragh.

Rooney's Plymouth postponed their weekend fixture on Friday afternoon after their Safety Advisory Group strongly recommended it because of severe Amber weather warnings across Devon. That meant the former Everton and Manchester United player could now watch his boyhood club play Liverpool for the final time at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime instead.

However, any plans to tune in would have been shelved, as that match has also been postponed because of similar conditions in the North West. Rooney will have to look elsewhere for his football fix.

United are set to host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford this evening so Rooney could watch one of his former clubs in action. Derby County, the Championship club where Rooney retired and began his coaching career, are also in action against Leeds United at lunchtime.

Whether he watches either match remains to be seen, but I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! will assumedly be appointment viewing for Rooney tonight as his wife Coleen competes in the show's Celebrity Cyclone after surviving the latest vote-off. She is one more eviction away from being among the three contestants in Sunday's final.

In her husband's absence, Coleen also received a boost on Friday's show after reuniting with her mother, Colette, and the Rooney's two youngest children, Cass and Kit. They joined her in the camp, and she burst into tears after seeing them for the first time in several weeks.

After the show, Rooney reposted a message from Coleen's verified account on X, formerly Twitter, which reads: "Emotional night. The best mum ever! The support for Coleen has been amazing, thanks so much for all the messages!"
