Eric Garcia’s situation at Barcelona seems increasingly uncertain as he struggles to find regular playing time under Hansi Flick.
According to recent reports from Matteo Moretto, Garcia is now considered the fifth-choice centre-back in the pecking order.
Players such as Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, Jules Kounde, and Ronald Araujo are all ahead of him in the defensive hierarchy.
This has cast doubts over his future at the club, although any potential departure is likely to be delayed until the summer transfer window.
Barcelona open to his exit
Garcia’s opportunities this season have been extremely limited. At the start of the campaign, he was briefly tested in a defensive midfield role, but this experiment now appears to be over.
For Garcia to get another chance in midfield, it would require exceptional circumstances, such as multiple injuries to key players. In his natural position at centre-back, the competition is even fiercer.

With Araujo nearing a return from injury and Andreas Christensen also progressing in his recovery, Garcia’s prospects of making the starting XI look increasingly slim.
Earlier reports stated otherwise
While there were earlier claims suggesting that Flick might allow Garcia to leave in January, recent developments indicate otherwise.
The club reportedly does not plan to entertain offers for the defender during the winter transfer window. Instead, they view him as a transferable player whose exit could be facilitated at the end of the season.
Despite the challenges, Garcia remains committed to proving his worth at Barcelona. With a contract that runs until 2026, he is determined to fight for his place.
However, Barcelona’s demanding environment prioritises immediate results, leaving little room for players struggling to cement their roles.
For now, his path back into the team appears difficult. Unless injuries or tactical changes create unexpected opportunities, the young defender may have to wait until the summer to explore his options or make a fresh start elsewhere.
