Mackenzie Kinsella
One Everton fan has been left “sick” after the Merseyside derby postponement cost him £1,500.
The Toffees were set to take on fierce rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. It would have represented the final Premier League meeting between the two sides at Everton’s historical home ahead of their move to Bramley Moore.
But the game will not go ahead as originally planned after chaotic weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh. And that has left Mackenzie Kinsella, 15, gutted after saving up to see the game.
He had paid around £1,500 to fly from Australia and buy tickets for the game. He is set to spend two weeks in the UK to stay with his grandmother, Jo.
But after flying all the way from Sydney, MacKenzie was left gutted at the news of the postponement. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, his grandparent Jo said: “I was sick when I heard that. He's come all this way, spent all this money and the match might be off.”
And while Mackenzie will no doubt have been left gutted, he still managed to see his beloved Toffees in action. He attended Everton’s 4-0 win against Wolves in midweek - Ashley Young and Orel Mangala setting Sean Dyche’s side on their way before a brace of own goals from Craig Dawson.
Everton’s next outing will be their trip to Arsenal next weekend. Their clash with Liverpool looks set to be rescheduled for after the festive period - the soonest date potentially being New Year’s Day.

After the original postponement, Liverpool explained why the decision was taken despite supporter disappointment. A club statement read: “This is due to severe weather and high winds, which have also resulted in severe travel disruption in and around Merseyside.
“Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting this morning at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that due to the risk to safety in the local area, and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6am on Sunday, today’s match is postponed on safety grounds.
“We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance. Information relating to a rearranged date for the fixture, including ticketing, will be announced in due course.”
