Liverpool confirmed that the Merseyside derby has been postponed due to three reasons: severe weather conditions, including high winds and significant travel disruption.
The Premier League clash at Goodison Park was called off on Saturday morning, ahead of what would have been the final top-flight match at the venue. Storm Darragh has caused chaos across the UK, leading to the cancellation of numerous sporting events, with the west being particularly affected. This includes other Merseyside events like Aintree's race day.
The postponement presents a scheduling headache for both Everton and Liverpool as they scramble to find an alternative date for the fixture. Everton were the first to announce the game's postponement, with Liverpool swiftly confirming the decision.
Despite the close proximity of the two clubs, there were substantial travel concerns that could have jeopardized fan safety. The Reds issued a statement explaining the reasons for the last-minute call-off, saying: "This is due to severe weather and high winds, which have also resulted in severe travel disruption in and around Merseyside.
"Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting this morning at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that due to the risk to safety in the local area, and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6 am on Sunday, today's match is postponed on safety grounds.

"We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance."
With the weather taking a turn, several matches across the nation have been postponed. The Met Office's warnings have already led to cancellations at Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle, and Bristol Rovers.
Manchester United has also announced that their evening match at Old Trafford is under review due to the conditions. As of now, the game against Nottingham Forest is still on, but fans are advised to stay updated as the situation develops.
