'Strong'Chelsea player is now'very likely'to leave the club in January - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea’s first-team midfielder is being strongly tipped with a transfer move in January.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is extremely fortunate to be working with a young and talented Chelsea squad this season. In particular, there’s so much quality and depth in the centre of the park.

Chelsea can select from high-profile midfielders such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia. That’s before you even mention the other central midfielders in the group, too.

Interestingly, Chelsea are pursuing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as a transfer target.

Cesare Casadei expected to leave Chelsea in January

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea’s Cesare Casadei is “very likely” to leave Stamford Bridge in the upcoming January transfer window.

It’s unclear on if the 21-year-old Blues midfielder will exit on loan or permanently, but he’s set to be on the move in the New Year.

Romano said via his YouTube channel: “I think the midfielder who will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window is, in my information and opinion, Cesare Casadei. Very likely.”

Casdaei, who’s been part of Chelsea’s first-team squad this season, has struggled for game time.

The Italian central midfielder has made five appearances across all competitions, including featuring in every Conference League group match. However, he’s not played a single minute in the club’s Premier League campaign.

Maresca called Chelsea’s Casadei “physically strong” and he’s happy with his performances, but he’s struggling to give him a lot of games.

What should Chelsea do with Cesare Casadei?

Chelsea spent £12m (The Guardian) to sign Casadei from Inter Milan in the summer window of 2022. Unfortunately, the young talent hasn’t yet kicked on in West London like people may have hoped.

He had a brief spell on loan at Leicester City last season, where he was coached under Maresca, but he’s spent most of 2024 on the fringes of Chelsea’s first-team squad.

At the age of 21, Casadei needs to be playing more regular first-team football, and a loan in January could be great for him.

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola does rate Casadei, and his hopeful he can carve out a future at the club. It’s going to take some rapid development for him to disrupt the current Blues midfield, though.
