Real Madrid have been poor in recent months and to call their run of results disappointing would be an understatement.
After defeats to Liverpool, AC Milan and Lille in the UEFA Champions League, the Merengues have after all forfeited their chance to qualify in the top 8 of the competition and are, in fact, battling for survival.
While their situation in La Liga is relatively better, one cannot deny that they have been relatively lucky to be in such close reach of Barcelona despite playing tangibly worse.
Former Real Madrid player lashes out at Ancelotti
Penning his thoughts on Real Madrid’s performances this season after the defeat to Athletic Club de Bilbao, former player Pedja Mijatovic came out to lash Carlo Ancelotti and demand serious changes from the grassroots.
His words has sparked much discussion as he was ruthless in his insights. After all, he opened off by calling the manager a people pleaser, implying that he prioritises player hierarchy over the team’s good.
“He has doubts and I have the feeling that he wants to please everyone.”
He then elaborated on how the Italian tactician did not give minutes to the deserving, saying
“There are young people who deserve to have the opportunity, but not when they think they have to play, but when the coach gives them the opportunity.”

Giving his two cents on the situation, the former Real Madrid player called for Ancelotti to come out of his saint-like image and be more aggressive and angry with the team’s performances.
“[He] doesn’t want to make people angry and at Madrid right now, the way the squad is, I think that a conflict, an anger, one of these things, could even benefit the atmosphere.”
“We know he’s a pacifist, but now we need an Ancelotti who gets angry and sends – I don’t want to say it – someone to hell.”
Mijatovic also shared his thoughts on how the manager should proceed after making such a change, saying,
“[He should] see how the team reacts. Things worked until a year ago, but as everything evolves, now maybe some anger and conflict can give something different because Madrid needs something different.”
Finally, he insisted that there was no need to change the manager but a need for a manager to change himself.
“There is no need to change the coach, but something has to change Ancelotti. As they say in my country, sometimes, between two very good friends, you have to get angry so that they love each other even more.”
