'Allegiance has moved': Richard Keys says he's now changed his mind about Liverpool after working on Merseyside

Liverpool were supposed to be facing off against Everton for the final time in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The game was all geared up to be the big kick-off for the latest weekend of action in the division.

However, Storm Darragh ended those hopes, with strong winds around Liverpool meaning authorities felt they had no choice but to cancel the game.

Liverpool supporters were pleased with the news generally, with a feeling that perhaps the Reds were not quite in the best shape to get a result at the home of their neighbours.

Everton, meanwhile, had just come off the back of a massive 4-0 win over Wolves and were bouncing into the Merseyside Derby having also won the same fixture last season.

Either way, the game will have to be re-scheduled. And ahead of whenever that game will be played, Richard Keys has revealed whether his four years living and working on Merseyside left him as a Red or a Blue.

Richard Keys reveals Everton allegiance

Keys has been a prominent face in football coverage for more than 30 years.

But before all of that, when the 67-year-old was barely out of his teens, he worked for Radio City in Liverpool as a football commentator.

Now presenting on beIN SPORTS alongside former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer, Keys was asked by McAteer to state his allegiances.

“You were obviously on Merseyside for how many years, four?” asked the Scouser. “I get the feeling you tend to lean towards Liverpool more than Everton, but why would that be?”

“When I worked there, because Liverpool were more successful, it was more enjoyable shall we say,” replied Keys.

“It was an early form of celebrity that you attached yourself to. But the good guys were always Everton and as the years have passed my allegiance has moved and I have turned Blue.”

When could the Merseyside Derby be played?

While Keys may be a Blue for now, he may have to wait a while to see the Toffees take on their city rivals.

According to liverpool.com, there is a possibility that this weekend’s game could be rearranged for New Year’s Day, though, which is not too far in the distance.

Beyond that, it’s reported that the nearest possible dates would come in February instead.

In the meantime, Liverpool do not play Everton again this season until April, with the Anfield return game currently set to take place on the weekend of the 2nd.

This means that the game at Goodison is still likely to be the first meeting of the two local rivals in this season’s Premier League.
