USA wonderkid ‘set to train’ at Manchester United next week ahead of possible transfer

A highly-rated teenager, who made his MLS debut aged 16 and two days earlier this year, is reportedly set to train at Manchester United next week.

United States youth international Nimfasha Berchimas became one of the youngest debutants in American top-flight history when he was handed his senior bow for Charlotte FC back in February.

The forward is thought to have caught the attention of several European outfits, having made an impression with the national team’s Under-20 side - four years above his age group.

Berchimas - who was invited to train at Bayern Munich in 2022 - scored twice for the USA Under-20s during this summer’s CONCACAF Championships, where he netted the team’s only goal in the final as they lost 2-1 to Mexico after extra time.

The attacker has three senior club appearances to his name, having tallied six goals in 21 games for Charlotte's second team, ‘Crown Legacy FC’, last season - each campaign running from February to October.

GiveMeSport suggests that Berchimas’ trip to Carrington was planned before the arrival of new first-team head coach Ruben Amorim. The idea is for United to assess Berchimas while he experiences the facilities at a high-ranking Premier League club.

There is the possibility that a transfer is agreed in the future, the report claims. The new sporting board at United are said to be very much behind the organisation of the visit of Berchimas, amid a keenness from technical director Jason Wilcox to identify the next wave of academy talent.

Berchimas - born in 2008 - signed his first professional contract in November 2022, aged 14 years and 268 days - the sixth youngest-player player in MLS history to do so. Having moved to the US as a child, also qualifies to play for Birundi through his place of birth.
