Joe Rothwell has shared his assessment of Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Derby County and spoke of his particular delight for one of his teammates.
Rothwell was arguably Leeds’ best player on the day and it was his corner that finally helped the home side unlock Derby’s resolute defence from a corner.
Joe Rodon met a brilliant out swinging delivery from the on-loan Bournemouth midfielder to net his first goal both for Leeds, and in English football.
Another unlikely goalscorer then put the game to bed for Leeds as Max Wober steered in a deflected Brenden Aaronson cross after replacing Junior Firpo early on.
Wober had been hoping to start for the first time in the Championship this season until Firpo was passed fit to play, but it wasn’t long until he was called into action due to the former Barcelona man’s injury.

Rothwell says Max Wober has had ‘tough time’ at Leeds
In coming off the bench for Firpo, Wober was making just his third league appearance of the campaign, though all of those have come in the last four matches.
Since returning from his controversial loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, Wober simply hasn’t had the opportunity to go through the same redemption arc Brenden Aaronson has had this season.
Such has been his lack of game time, Wober has been linked with a return to Red Bull Salzburg over the last few days and that is a move some Leeds fans would be happy for him to take.

However, Wober showed what he can offer this squad in the Championship by coming off the bench and scoring, something which left Rothwell ‘delighted’ in his post-match interview with BBC Radio Leeds.
He said: “Delighted for Max, obviously it has been a bit of a tough time for him so I am delighted for him to get on the scoresheet. Obviously the main thing today was bouncing back from last weekend.”
Wober could get first Championship start vs Boro
Farke confirmed Firpo is almost certain to miss Tuesday’s game against Middlesbrough due to the hamstring injury he suffered today.
With Sam Byram out and Wober seemingly also ahead of Isaac Schmidt in the pecking order, this could finally be the chance he needs.
Incidentally, Wober’s only start this season came in August’s humbling Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough at Elland Road, where he was really poor.
However, if he can use his goal and performance against Derby as momentum in midweek, then he could be in for a busy festive period for Leeds.
