Newcastle United player ratings as man of the match search called off after Brentford horror…

[Newcastle United](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/newcastle-united-fc) stayed slumped in the bottom half of the table in the Premier League after a 4-2 loss in the capital - and consequently Chronicle Live opted against awarding a man of the match award given the poor show against the Bees.

Despite having millions of pounds worth of talent in from the start, and then more internationals introduced after the break, Newcastle were sadly no match for Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo fired Brentford ahead on eight minutes but Newcastle equalised three minutes later through a diving header from Alexander Isak from Jacob Murphy's assist.

A Harvey Barnes error saw the ex-Leicester man rolled the ball straight to Yoane Wissa with 28 minutes gone with the DR Congo star making no mistake. But Newcastle were level again on 32 minutes as Jacob Murphy grabbed a second assist to set up Barnes to redeem himself.

The Magpies managed just one shot on target after the break with Nathan Collins and Kevin Schade adding to Howe's woes. **Here's how Newcastle's players rated at Brentford:**

**Nick Pope 5**

Left exposed but could have done better in second half. Late howler almost let in Brentford for five.

**Tino Livramento 4**

Struggled to cope after the break.

**Fabian Schar 3**

Faded badly after the break. Some questionable moments on the goals.

**Dan Burn 6**

The pick of the defence and this could have been worse without him. Late clearance off the line summed up his never say die spirit despite the game being lost by then.

**Lewis Hall 5**

Struggled after the break before being hooked.

**Sean Longstaff 5**

Fizzled out after decent start.

**Bruno Guimaraes 5**

A second half no show. Could not lift the team when leadership was needed.

**Joelinton 4**

Not at it. Switched off too many times not least for goal number three as Nathan Collins, the man he was marking, calmly walked through to score. No surprise he was hooked.

**Harvey Barnes 6**

Made up for his first half howler with a goal. But flattered to deceive after the break.

**Jacob Murphy 6**

Walked off with two assists.

**Alexander Isak 6**

A lovely diving header but what might have been after he rounded Flakken? Brought nothing to the table after the break.

Subs

**Anthony Gordon 4 (for Murphy 60)**

At least managed a shot on target.

**Sandro Tonali 6 (for Joelinton 60)**

Needed to start.

**Callum Wilson 4 (for Longstaff 73)**

Didn't manage a shot. Just six touches and not much impact.

**Miguel Almiron 3 (for Harvey Barnes 73)**

No impact.

Kieran Trippier (for Hall 83)

\*Subs must play 15 minutes to gain a mark.
