Major Michail Antonio update as West Ham confirm condition after horror car crash

Michail Antonio is in a stable condition.

Antonio, 34, was involved in a road traffic accident on Saturday (December 7). West Ham released a statement confirming he had been involved in the crash, and there has now been an update from the club.

A statement from X read: "West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.

"Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital. At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.

"The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course."

In a previous statement, West Ham said: "West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time. The Club will issue an update in due course."

Images also circulated on social media of what appeared to be a smashed-up Ferrari, allegedly in the aftermath of the crash - which took place in Essex.

Premier League clubs and football fans were quick to send their thoughts and prayers to Antonio on social media.

Antonio joined the Hammers in 2015, scoring 83 goals in 322 games for the club. He had previously turned out for Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest. At the Hammers he was part of their Europa Conference League success in 2022.

Antonio had previously been in a car crash on Christmas Day back in 2019. The striker crashed his Lamborghini Huracan into a bin shed of a family home in Balham, south London while dressed as a snowman after losing control of his car.
