Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was left baffled after being sent off during the team’s 2-2 draw with Real Betis on Saturday.
The German coach was shown a straight red card minutes after Betis had been awarded a penalty for a challenge by Frenkie de Jong on Vitor Roque.
It appeared that Flick had been sanctioned for dissent, but the German coach denied that was the case after the match.
“I don’t understand it. It was a reaction on my part. I didn’t say anything specific to anyone,” he told reporters.
“They have been a long time to see if it was a penalty and that means it was doubtful.
“It’s my first sending off here, it was a reaction to myself.”
Flick also spoke about his decision to take off key stars such as Dani Olmo, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski against Betis.
“I know I changed important players, but we played very badly from the start,” he added.
“We needed fresh legs, we have an important Champions League game on Wednesday”
Barca now turn their attentions to the Champions League and a trip to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund.
