Pundits still afraid to believe in new Chelsea – apart from one

Chelsea Tottenham is this weekend’s big fixture, and so as you’d expect, pundits from across the land have had their say on what’s going to happen.

Last year’s games between these two sides were full of drama, and we expect more of the same. Former Blue Jason Cundy isn’t expecting such a thriller through:

“1-1. I hope I’m wrong. It just feels like it’s going to be a draw,” he said on his Inside Chelsea TalkSport show.

“A draw is not a bad result by the way. It feels like a bit of a tricky one for us. I’m going to go draw.”

Alan Shearer, writing for the Metro, had similar ideas:

“Maresca is doing a great job and he’s playing the title race down. I’m going to say a draw here. It’s at Spurs and a London derby so I think the points will be shared. Prediction: Draw.”

At least someone is willing to stick their neck out – Chris Sutton is much bolder for the BBC, and backs a 3-1 Blue away win.

“I am going with Chelsea here. While I do wonder about their experience, I think Enzo Maresca’s side are title contenders even if he insists they aren’t.”

His focus is on the extra freshness that Chelsea will have after making 7 changes in midweek:

“They are playing with real confidence at the moment and look completely different to the team they were last season. Nicolas Jackson is an example of how much they have improved and, after being rested against Southampton in midweek, he will be refreshed and ready to go.

Our prediction

It’s a tough call – but we think both teams will score, and we think Chelsea will score more. We think we could see a 3-2 or a 4-2 as we simply have too much firepower for our old rivals, even in their stadium.
