[Manchester United](https://thebusbybabe.sbnation.com) suffered a second straight defeat in the Premier League on Saturday, falling to Nottingham Forest at home in a 3-2 loss. It’s the second defeat for the side under Ruben Amorim, who learned this week he has his work cut out for him in terms of coaching up a functional defensive side.
Five goals felt quite a lot for a side involving Nuno Espirito Santo as manager, but given some of the chaos in Manchester United’s defending recently maybe it shouldn’t be so surprising.
Part of the problem for the Reds today was the same problem that reared its ugly head on Wednesday, defending aerial balls and set pieces. Nottingham Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic handed his team the lead in just the second minute on yet another set-piece goal against United. While the Reds were able to respond in the 18th minute with Rasmus Hojlund scoring a clean up goal there was not a lot to be positive about going into the halftime break.
There was even less to be positive about coming out of the break as Forest scored again through Morgan Gibbs-White. The play started with a bad giveaway by Amad on the right, but the resulting chance was entirely manageable. Andre Onana made a rare mistake (this season at least) by moving to his right as a weak shot centered on the net where he would have been stood to make a simple save.
Forest capitalized on the momentum with a good spell of possession, leading to a third goal for Chris Wood. The forward headed a ball back across goal and everyone stood watching as it drifted into the far right corner where Lisandro Martinez was supposed to be on guard.
Again, United were able to respond with a goal a few minutes later from Bruno Fernandes, but it seemed a case of too many changes as the positive momentum after Marcus Rashford’s introduction off the bench ground to a halt. Forest were happy to defend the rest of the way and United could do nothing to break them down.
Rashford and Amad each had decent looks at goal, with the former hitting a volley that looked bound for the bottom corner before taking a deflection from a defender in the final minutes.
The Reds return to action on Thursday against Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League, where hopefully they can reset on the road before a Manchester Derby date with a floundering City side next Sunday.
