Matheus Cunha is not ready to pen a new deal at Wolves amidst interest in his services from Manchester United.
According to a report from Football Insider, Matheus Cunha is not ready to commit his long-term future to Wolves. The Brazilian international wants to keep his options open amid relegation fear. With Manchester United interested in his services it is quite understandable why he doesn’t intend to extend his stay at the club.
Cunha joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid at the start of 2023 on loan with an obligation to buy clause. The deal became permanent in the summer as the English had to fork out £44 million. The 25-year-old Brazilian striker has done a decent job since moving to the Premier League.
He has featured in a total of 71 matches for Wolves and has contributed towards 35 goals (23 goals, 12 assists). Cunha who is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack has had an impressive start to the new campaign. He has been involved in 14 league games and has a total of 10 goals contributions to his name (7 goals, 3 assists).
Cunha won’t pen a new deal
Wolves consider him an integral part of their plans moving ahead. While his current deal at Molineux runs until the summer of 2027, they want to secure his long-term future with a new deal with improved terms.
The Wolverhampton-based club are aware of the amount of interest in his services from across Europe and they want to fend off the interest by extending his current contract.
Cunha is quite happy at his current club but he is not willing to put pen to paper on a new deal amidst a threat of relegation. Despite the Brazilian’s efforts, Wolves are currently 19th on the points table. If things don’t improve they are going down.
Manchester United keen on signing Cunha
As a result, the 25-year-old wants to keep his options open amidst interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are looking to reinforce their attack and Cunha is quite high on their wishlist as he has proven himself in the English top flight.
His ability to feature in multiple roles in the final third of the pitch makes him an interesting option for Ruben Amorim’s team. With him deciding against extending his stay at the club, United do have a chance to acquire his services.
