'He'll go': Journalist shares what's likely to happen with Alphonso Davies after Liverpool make contact

Liverpool look likely to be in the market for a new left back during 2025.

Arne Slot has been swapping between Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas this season, but question marks remain over each player’s long-term suitability.

As a result, Rousing The Kop understands that Liverpool are actively looking at left-backs ahead of next year’s market.

One player in the position who could available is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. Davies’ current deal at Bayern is set to expire at the end of the season.

Still only 24-years-old, the Canadian would be an ideal successor to Robertson in the Liverpool squad.

And according to journalist Graeme Bailey, the Reds are looking to position themselves if Davies really does become available.

Real Madrid in driving seat for Alphonso Davies

Liverpool have been linked with Davies before, but for a little while it has seemed as though the Canada international is most likely to join Real Madrid.

However, speaking exclusively to RTK, Bailey says ‘murmurings’ have started to emerge that Davies may now be looking at other options.

And according to the reporter, Liverpool have spoken to Davies’ agents to find out what’s going on as a result.

“There are murmurings from Germany now that Davies has decided against Real Madrid, so that obviously gives other clubs a look in, so to speak,” says Bailey.

“It’s more just if the door’s open a crack then Liverpool will investigate it. It’s just too good an opportunity not to ask the question.”

Despite Liverpool’s interest, though, Bailey says that for the moment he still expects Davies to join the European champions on a free transfer.

“I still think he’ll go to Real Madrid,” he admits. “He’s waited all this time, rejected numerous contract offers. Bayern aren’t exactly hitting heights. I don’t see why he would stay when he’s got Real Madrid ready. But let’s see how it plays out.”

Liverpool should push harder for Davies

Up until this point, the strongest transfer link in terms of a new left-back at Liverpool has been regarding Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are monitoring Kerkez and the Hungarian would certainly look like a smart addition.

Having said that, Davies is on a different level. There would obviously be a disparity in wages for these two players, but without a transfer fee, Liverpool shouldn’t find it difficult to satisfy Davies’ demands.

In terms of solutions for a succession plan at left-back, Davies would be a stunningly good one.

For now it seems unlikely to come to fruition, but in our opinion Liverpool should be going all out to make themselves a serious contender for what would be an incredible signing.
