Karren Brady devoting an entire column praising Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will leave West Ham United fans scratching their heads.
Writing for The Sun (6 December), Brady sang Salah’s praises with Liverpool front-runners in the Premier League title race, comparing him to biblical figure Samson and calling him a “magician”.
Few Irons fans would deny Salah’s brilliance since arriving at Anfield in 2017, but many would hope that Brady’s attention would instead be on the chaos that seems to be engulfing her own club.
“This season (Salah) abandoned his wild hair but, unlike Samson, kept his strength and continues to stun defences with the precision of his shooting… Egyptian magician, I’ll say”, Brady wrote.
Further ramblings included: “Not many of us would forgive a robber, as Salah did in Egypt. He gave him money and offered help to find him a job, rather than pressing charges.

“That makes him special beyond any of his dozens of awards and trophies. He has deserved every one of them — and the next Ballon d’Or.”
Karren Brady’s priorities bizarre with West Ham on brink of revolt
Hammers fans don’t need reminding of how good Salah is – they got to see that first-hand when he scored Liverpool’s third in a crushing 5-1 EFL Cup defeat this September – and Brady should know this.
Rather than writing puff pieces on star players for Premier League rivals, Irons supporters would prefer to see any evidence whatsoever that Brady and the board are doing to address their current issues.
The decision to appoint Julen Lopetegui as David Moyes’ successor has proven to be an abject failure in every feasible way, with the away end in their 3-1 defeat at Leicester City making this clear.
While the home atmosphere at the London Stadium has descended into nothing more than apathy, the travelling support turning on Lopetegui suggests that their faith in the Spaniard is now irreparable.
Any signs of movement or positivity from the boardroom have been hard to come by, with the club’s decision-makers seemingly split on whether or not to recognise their error and show Lopetegui the door [Kaveh Solhekol, 4 December].
The upcoming match against Wolves on 9 December could prove to be the final nail in Lopetegui’s coffin, but even if the right decision is made after, it’s clear the board aren’t fully focused on the task at hand.
In other West Ham news, the club’s board are worried that a star player could push for the exit door if Lopetegui remains in post.
