Spurs and Millwall show pure class as great and good of football make Antonio statements

In difficult times the football world comes together and there’s no better example than messages from Spurs and Millwall about West Ham star Michail Antonio.

Football has the power to unite people, offering hope and a sense of community even in the toughest times.

West Ham’s fiercest rivals Millwall and Tottenham Hotspur have proved that this evening.

There is no love lost between the Hammers and their oldest adversaries Millwall.

Anybody with even a passing interest in football knows West Ham and Millwall is one of the game’s most heated, tribal rivalries.

In the absence of playing regularly against one another over the years. Tottenham have taken on that mantle from Millwall in terms of being West Ham’s biggest rivalry in the Premier League.

That was in evidence when the Hammers went to Spurs and a mass brawl erupted as Mohammed Kudus was sent off for flooring three Tottenham players.

There is rarely, if ever, niceties exchanged when it comes to West Ham, Tottenham or Millwall.

The Hammers confirmed this evening that distressing images on social media were indeed true – their striker Antonio had been in a serious car crash.

Antonio was airlifted to hospital as a result of the smash.

West Ham confirmed the worrying Antonio news and stated their ‘thoughts and prayers were with his family and friends’.

While incidents like this put football sharply into perspective, the beauty of the game is that it comes together in these moments.

Nothing highlights that more than some of the messages to the Hammers and their stricken forward.
