Liverpool win as Merseyside derby postponed

Liverpool have been in magical form this season but they did drop points in midweek. Newcastle United grabbed a late equaliser - having already led twice - to finish the fixture 3-3.

And the Reds simply weren't themselves in that one. They looked leggy, which shouldn't be a surprise given they'd played both Real Madrid and Manchester City in the prior week.

On top of that, Liverpool's squad keeps shrinking. Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota are all out injured. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harvey Elliott, who were on the bench, are barely back from their own absences.

So this postponement means Liverpool have a nice break between the Newcastle fixture at Girona away on Tuesday. And if we're being honest, that's a fixture in which Arne Slot may fancy rotating a bit.

Ben Doak genius

Ben Doak provided another magnificent moment on Friday. Middlesbrough drew 1-1 at Burnley and while the Scot didn't have any goals or assists this time, he did find a way to wow the crowd.

The teenager received the ball on the flank with two defenders on him. That's been a growing trend as opponents attempt to curb his influence.

This time, however, it didn't work. Doak danced around the pair, eventually drawing a third defender to him. He beat that one, too, driving into the box and shaping up for a shot.

Doak narrowly missed the target, scraping the far post with his effort. But it was the kind of moment that remarkably few players could manage.

Mac Allister update

After receiving a yellow card against Newcastle on Wednesday, Alexis Mac Allister had reached his quota of five yellow cards in the Premier League, meaning he was set to miss the Everton clash through a one-game suspension.

This will now transfer over to the Reds' next domestic game when Fulham travel to Anfield next Saturday.

However, Liverpool also play against Girona in the Champions League this week, and after Mac Allister received a yellow card against Real Madrid two weeks ago and reached his quota of three yellow cards for the competition's group stage, he will also miss this game while serving a one-game suspension.

This means that he will be sidelined for thirteen days between the Newcastle game and the upcoming EFL Cup clash against Southampton on December 18, his next available fixture.

Guardiola's post-match comments

Man City failed to continue their return to form on Saturday. They went to Crystal Palace but fell behind twice at Selhurst Park.

Erling Haaland found the net between two Palace goals, with Rico Lewis scoring the last of the game as things finished 2-2. Lewis was later sent off, however.

So while it's possible that Liverpool lose their rescheduled meeting with Everton, this will undoubtedly feel like two points dropped for City. A win for the Reds in the derby, whenever it takes place, would now increase the gap to City by two more

Pep Guardiola's reaction to that was certainly telling.

Koumas delights with finish

The Welshman has been a key asset for Stoke this season, playing eleven of their 17 matches in the Championship.

And just six minutes into their game against high-flying Sunderland, he notched his second league goal of the season, with a cheeky and inventive finish.

After breaking away down the right-hand side of the pitch, timing his run to perfection in order to stay onside, he latched onto a long ball and got an effort on target which was saved by the keeper, before bending a rebound effort into the far corner of the net.
