An up-and-down start to the season continued for the New York Knicks in their Dec. 7 game loss to the Detroit Pistons. Without both Cam Payne and Karl-Anthony Towns, New York failed to keep up with an 10-15 Pistons team, spearheaded by point guard phenom Cade Cunningham, who recorded a triple-double.
It wasn't a loss without emotion for the Knicks, who saw Josh Hart get ejected in the fourth quarter after arguing with officials. He spoke with reporters after the game about his two technical fouls that ultimately saw him tossed from the court.
"I got my tech for basically saying 'Someone get in the game.' I think I was 10-feet away from the ref going into the huddle, didn't curse or speak disrespectfully to the ref," Hart said postgame. "So, I got a tech that way. I asked him why after and he said 'That's not how we talk to each other.' I said okay, and I left that there."
Hart told reporters that his frustrations were centered on Cunningham's treatment by the officials.
"I just didn't understand how, at the end of the game, we're going on a run, another player walks up to the ref, and, he cursed," Hart continued. "So I didn't understand it. I didn't understand how I got a tech at that moment in time and how there wasn't one on the other side."
New York falls to 14-9 on the season after the loss to Detroit. Next, they'll travel for a matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 9. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm EST.
