Arsenal are said to be interested in a deal for a Premier League striker.

Arsenal have reportedly held ‘initial talks’ with a potential transfer target ahead of next summer. The Gunners know they need more competition at the top end of the pitch, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus the options in the striker role.

Havertz has been the main starter in that position, with Jesus struggling to consistently push for the starting role. The Brazilian has been linked with an exit, but Mikel Arteta has maintained that he is happy with his current back-up striker.

Goals have been flowing for the Gunners over the last few weeks, but that has not been the same throughout the season, and it’s no secret that set-pieces have been key for Arteta’s men again this season.

A new striker may be seen as the answer for Arsenal ahead of next season, with more competition and goals required. According to reports, Wolves star Matheus Cunha could be the answer, with the £44million signing having been one of the few bright sparks for the West Midlands club this season. Cunha has scored seven and assisted three 14 appearances for struggling Wolves.

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal have already held ‘initial talks’ with Cunha over a possible move, while there is also interest from Manchester United. It’s reported that Wolves want £60 million if they are to sell Cunha next summer, eyeing a £16million profit.

The O’Neil factor

Cunha is a big fan of Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, who may not have a future at Molineux if the Midlands club continue their current trajectory. That could be a big factor in any possible transfer.

"I will always remember how he looked at me as more than a football player." Cunha told Sky Sports earlier this year. “Those early concerns are gone now. "We always joke about it and smile. I really enjoy working with him and how he manages the group. I have learned a lot about how to manage hard situations. I have more appreciation for football with him."
