Wydad Casablanca coach Rulani Mokwena got a dream draw in the FIFA Club World Cup which sees his side play Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City.
The North African giants were drawn in Group G alongside Man City, Juventus and Al Ain. On paper, the group looks tough but this will allow Rulani to test his squad next year in June. So far Wydad are fourth in the Botola Pro league and nine points behind log leaders.
Speaking after the draw, Rulani Mokwena said the game against Pep’s Man City will give them a chance to put the club on the map.
“But I think it’s a good test for us. We try to create a model of play that is a bit similar to how Manchester City plays.
“So, I think we will have a very good match, we have a very good squad, we have to believe in ourselves and be strong,” he said as per***iDiski Times***.
Rulani Mokwena to finally meet Pep
“And this is a great opportunity, and that’s how we have to look at it – a great opportunity to put Wydad on the map in the world,” Mokwena said.
The Club World Cup is still six months away and all Rulani has to do is to survive this season. He has had a tough start to the season, with some Wydad supporters calling for his head.
For many years, Rulani Mokwena has been likened to Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola for his style on and off the pitch. His coaching methods, stance and the way he speaks to the media have been often compared to the Spaniards. Next year, the South African tactician will have a chance to go face-to-face with his idol.
Can Mokwena get one over Guardiola?
