Why Merseyside derby POSTPONED is a good news for Liverpool

The Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton has been postponed due to safety concerns regarding Storm Darragh in the UK.

The 15th gameweek match between the Reds and the Toffees was scheduled to kick-off on Saturday, December 7 at 12.30 pm.

This game would’ve been the last Merseyside derby played at Goodison Park before Everton moved to their new stadium.

However, that could not happen as the match was called off due to adverse weather conditions courtesy of Storm Darragh.

Heavy winds across the UK has been observed and the forecast stated that the winds could become as fast as 70 mph which would’ve done ‘danger to life’.

The Toffees via an official statement confirmed that the fans will not have to face any issues with their current bookings and all the updated details will be notified later.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank supporters for their understanding. Whilst we appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance.

Information relating to a rearranged date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

All tickets purchased for the original fixture will remain valid for the rearranged fixture.”

How postponed Liverpool Vs. Everton match benefits the Reds?

The Anfield giants faced Newcastle United on Thursday night and drew the game. The PL and UCL leaders, despite being unstoppable this season, looked tired due to their back to back encounters with Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Arne Slot & Co. must be celebrating this postponement as they would’ve had to play this fixture without several players due to injuries and suspension.

Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota are still injured and Alexis Mac Allister would miss one game because of suspension due to booking offense.

The rest time between the Magpies clash and the upcoming UCL game against Girona will definitely boost the mentality and physicality of the Merseyside boys.

However, there still remains the equation of this postponed match being rescheduled later on. The Reds would have to play this fixture in January or later within a busy schedule.

But for now, LFC players have the time to re-energize so that they can continue their momentum going forward.
