Four Leicester City players have to be on their best behaviour against Brighton to avoid a suspension.
In having their name taken in the win over West Ham, Jamie Vardy and Boubakary Soumare joined Wilfred Ndidi and Jordan Ayew on four yellow cards for the season. One more and they will earn a one-match ban.
In fact, the quartet have to get through to the end of the year before the slate is wiped clean. That means avoiding a booking against Brighton and the following four fixtures against Newcastle, Wolves, Liverpool and Manchester City.
City have already had a player receive a one-match suspension this term. Facundo Buonanotte picked up five yellow cards in his first 10 Premier League appearances to be ruled out of the defeat to Chelsea.
With 37, City have the fourth-highest tally of bookings this season, behind Southampton, Chelsea and Manchester United. However, they are one of six clubs who have so far avoided being shown a red card.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will hope all of his players can keep themselves out of the officials’ bad books, but especially Vardy, Ndidi and Soumare, who look like being regular starters under the new manager. City do have depth in their positions though, with Harry Winks, Oli Skipp and Hamza Choudhury able to play deep in midfield, and with Patson Daka and Odsonne Edouard options up front.
