Bruno Guimaraes pulls no punches - uses two strong words to describe Newcastle United

Bruno Guimaraes claims Newcastle United’s second-half performance at Brentford was a “mess” and that the season so far is “very disappointing”.

The Magpies competed well in the first-half, twice coming from behind as Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa’s strikes.

However, United’s levels dropped significantly after the break and goals from Nathan Collins and substitute Kevin Schade wrapped up a 4-2 victory.

The result leaves Eddie Howe’s side 12th in league table and without a win in four matches.

Guimaraes said: “I think first-half we had some good moments but in the second-half we become a mess. After the third goal, we lost our way and we lost control. We became a mess on the pitch.

“It is so disappointing after the last game against Liverpool. We arrived here today hoping to play our best football. First-half we did some good stuff but we have to stop conceding.

We have been conceding a lot this season. When we got Champions League, we did not concede as much. Our season [so far] has been very, very disappointing.”

“We have not been consistent,” said Newcastle’s skipper. “We have to find consistency. We cannot play against Liverpool, Arsenal in this way and other teams another way. We have to fix it if we want to be in Europe again.

“I say sorry to the fans because they didn’t deserve this. We have to play for them. Today was tough [for them], the weather was not so great but they came and supported us but we were not good enough in the second-half.”

Next up for the Magpies is the visit of Leicester City to St James’ Park on Saturday.
