'Have to be honest': Harry Redknapp now admits he was wrong to claim £32m Chelsea player is 'not good enough'

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been speaking in the build-up to his old side’s game against Chelsea later.

Chelsea head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with arguably the best attack in the Premier League at the moment.

Enzo Maresca‘s men are currently the joint-highest scorers in the division alongside west London rivals Brentford, recently beating Southampton 5-1.

Their attack boasts the likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, who have both come in for praise this season. Carlton Cole recently discussed Jackson, claiming that it is starting to click for him now.

Harry Redknapp on Nicolas Jackson

Jackson had a lot of critics last season, including Redknapp, who thought he did not have enough quality to play for Chelsea at one point.

However, fast forward to now, and the 77-year-old has admitted that he got it wrong with the Senegal international.

Discussing Jackson in his column for The Sun, Redknapp said: “I have to be honest, when they bought him I thought, ‘He is just not good enough’. He was going to Bournemouth for £20million but that didn’t happen because he had an injury and I really thought the Cherries had saved themselves £20m.

“Now Jackson is looking a very useful player. Full credit to the manager because he has given him a bit of self belief and he’s delivering the goods.”

As well as the likes of Redknapp and Cole, Mario Melchiot has also been raving about Jackson after his quality performances this season.

Will Nicolas Jackson start against Tottenham?

Christopher Nkunku is Chelsea’s top goalscorer currently and netted in their recent victory over Southampton.

Rank Chelsea’s top scorers Goals

1 Christopher Nkunku 12

2 Cole Palmer 9

3 Nicolas Jackson 8

4 Noni Madueke 6

5 Joao Felix 5

However, Jackson has been the team’s first-choice striker in the current campaign and did not play a single minute at St Mary’s.

When you consider that, it is likely that the former Villarreal man, who cost Chelsea £32m, returns to the starting XI.

It would be disappointing for Nkunku, who will be wondering what he has to do to get a run of games in the Premier League.

Matches are coming thick and fast, though, so the Frenchman will be hoping that he gets more opportunities.

Nkunku showed his worth against Southampton and is someone Maresca may need more as the campaign goes on. One injury to Jackson, and the former RB Leipzig star’s importance to Chelsea is going to go up.
