Newcastle United failed to build on their excellent performance against Liverpool, as they slumped to a 4-2 defeat to Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League game.
The Magpies fell behind early after Bryan Mbeumo’s opener, but Alexander Isak quickly restored parity with a brilliant header.
Harvey Barnes’ mistake allowed the hosts to retake the lead, but the Newcastle winger made amends with a fine finish to level the scores before half-time.
Nathan Collins restored Brentford’s advantage with a left-footed finish following a free-kick, before Kevin Schade clipped home late on to wrap up the win.
It was a disappointing result for Eddie Howe’s side, who have dropped down to the bottom half of the Premier League table.
However, there were some positives for Newcastle fans in yesterday’s match, especially the performance of Isak.
Football pundit Martin Keown absolutely raved about the 25-year-old after his latest display, calling him ‘the best striker on form in the league at the moment’.
The former Arsenal star toldBBC Sport: “Alexander Isak is the best striker on form in the league at the moment. We saw what he did against Liverpool.
“He gets in between two markers, finds the space, it’s a lovely ball in and he tucks it away”.
Isak has been in top form in the English top-flight this campaign, scoring six goals and creating three assists in 13 appearances.
He produced an excellent performance against Liverpool and carried his form into Saturday’s game at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The striker scored with a lovely diving header, registered two key passes and completed 27 of his 35 passes.
However, he should have done better when he got into the box, rounded the goalkeeper but took too long to slot in.
