Hull City owner’s sensational deal for Barcelona superstar revealed – Jose Mourinho vetoed deal

Hull City owner Acun Ilıcalı plotted a move for Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window, albeit at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

That’s [according to A Spor](https://www.aspor.com.tr/fenerbahce/2024/12/07/fenerbahceden-yilin-bombasi-bu-transfer-osimheni-golgede-birakir), who detail the bold effort by the Hull owner today for Fenerbahce, where he is the vice-president.

The newspaper reports that Fenerbahce’s plans for the January transfer window are continuing at full speed, with the club aiming to win the title by adding players in the winter window.

That’s seen them continue to target a potential move for Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, with Ilıcalı going public and revealing they had struck a deal for a ‘world-famous star’ in the summer.

“We made an agreement with a world-famous star before the election, and we asked Mourinho about this. We said, ‘What do you think?’ Turkey will talk. Mourinho said ‘the surplus there is of no use to us,’” he is quoted as saying.

A Spor then detail information from Sabah, who say the star in question was Robert Lewandowski. The deal eventually didn’t happen because of Mourinho’s objection.

However, Fenerbahce may turn their attention back to the Barcelona star if Youssef En-Nesyri were to leave in January. They can gain income from that sale, which would then provide funds for a deal for Lewandowski.

There’s no indication of how much the Polish star would cost, or if Barcelona would even sanction a departure for the 36-year-old given he has 22 goals in 20 games this season.

But the idea remains for Ilıcalı, with the Hull City owner clearly being ambitious with his efforts to improve Fenerbahce.
