Marco Reus was one of the best attacking players of his generation.
With his speed, skill, and a keen eye for goal, the German forward left defenders in his wake.
He was particularly dangerous during his peak at Borussia Dortmund, where he consistently performed on Europe’s biggest stages.
For Liverpool fans, Reus was always a name that sparked intrigue.
Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds were linked with a host of Dortmund stars, and Reus was at the top of many wishlists.
Despite this, Liverpool never made a serious move for the player.
Injuries and other priorities meant Reus remained in Germany, while Klopp built a dominant Liverpool side without him.
Instead of Reus, Liverpool signed Sadio Mane, whose durability and clinical finishing helped the Reds scale new heights.
Yet, the idea of Reus in a Liverpool shirt remained a tantalizing “what if” for fans.
Now, years later, Reus has opened up about his admiration for Liverpool.
Marco Reus reveals admiration for Liverpool
Speaking to AwayDays, the former Germany international revealed his affection for the club, citing his experience at Anfield during a Europa League clash in 2016.
“I like Liverpool, to be honest,” Reus said. “I played there once, and it was an amazing atmosphere. The atmosphere between the fans and the players was amazing.”
Liverpool fans will remember that night well.
The Reds overcame an improbable deficit to beat Dortmund in one of Anfield’s most iconic European games.
For Reus, it was a moment that stayed with him.
His comments reflect the deep connection between Liverpool’s players, fans, and their historic ground.
While his move to Anfield never materialized, Reus’ admiration for the Reds is clear, leaving fans to wonder what might have been.
