Mohamed Salah has been told he could be putting Liverpool in "an impossible situation" over his new contract demands, by Alan Shearer. And the former England captain has dismissed the idea of the Egypt star simply naming his price, as the intense speculation over his future continues.
Salah is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to speak to clubs outside of England about moving on a free transfer next summer when the transfer window opens on January 1.
Speaking to a handful of publications that included the ECHO outside of St Mary's after his two goals helped the Reds beat Southampton 3-2 last month, Salah revealed he has yet to be offered a formal extension by the club he has scored 226 times for since moving from Roma in 2017.

Shearer, who is the Premier League's all-time leading scorer with 260, says the contract impasse is not as simple as it might appear from the outside, believing any increase on the Liverpool star's bottom line may lead to further issues down the line at Anfield.
"When I hear people say just give him what he wants, in terms of the Salah situation, you can't just give a player what he wants," Shearer told BBC Radio 5Live.
"One, you don't know what he's asking for, because he might put the club in an impossible situation if you give him what he wants, then someone else wants to know what he's being paid.
"Then the next big hitter that comes in will want and demand what he's being paid. There has to be a balance to something.
"We don't know what goal bonus Salah is on, so it's a very complicated situation when you're talking about contracts for players who are in their 30s, but have been a huge part of the football club."
Liverpool return to action when they travel to Girona in the Champions League on Tuesday night before hosting Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
