After having ended their woeful run in La Liga with a victory over Mallorca on Tuesday, FC Barcelona once again dropped points in the league as they could only muster a draw against Real Betis playing away from home.
The Blaugranes went ahead twice in the game, but the Verdiblancos were able to tie the scores both times, and the match ended in a draw.
One of the turning points in this game was the penalty given to Real Betis after Frenkie de Jong stepped on Vitor Roque’s heel inside the box. After consulting the VAR monitor, one of the actions that the referee took was to send off the Barcelona coach Hansi Flick and point to the penalty spot.
After the game, Flick expressed his confusion with the decision to expel him from the sidelines, and it was honestly rather unclear why the German had been shown the red card by the referee Muniz Ruiz.
SPORT has now revealed the reason for this expulsion, as the Spanish publication reports that the minutes of this match explained this decision for the following reasons: “Leaving the technical area shouting and gesturing to protest one of the decisions.”
With this expulsion, Hansi Flick will not be present on the sidelines for the upcoming game against Leganes, and his assistant, Marcus Sorg, will be responsible for directing the team in that game.
On the bright side, Flick’s suspension will be for only a single match as he has not been insulting or disrespectful towards the officials.
Following this game, the Barcelona coach will return to his position on the bench for the game against Atletico Madrid, which is going to be the last match of 2024 for Barcelona.
Hopefully, the Blaugranes will not miss him too much against Leganes, and will be able to get the job done even without him directing the team directly.
