Liverpool take on Girona FC in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday having had an unexpected weekend off from Premier League action.
Storm Darragh postponed the Reds’ trip to Goodison Park with Arne Slot’s side given a welcome few days off to recover ahead of what will be a manic December schedule, with Liverpool travelling to Catalonia in the coming days to face Girona.
With Liverpool top of the Champions League standings, another win could all-but confirm the Anfield side’s place in the next round of the competition, with the Merseyside giants looking like favourites to go all the way this season in Europe.
Yet Girona fans had a defiant message for Liverpool supporters in their La Liga tie this weekend against Real Madrid.

Girona fans ready to take on Liverpool despite 3-0 Real Madrid loss
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Girona supporters were heard chanting: “Que vinguin ja els anglesos! (Bring on the English!)” in their 3-0 loss against Los Blancos, with the Catalan side ready to host potentially the biggest game yet in their history.
This season marks Girona’s first venture into European football, with Michel and company already taking on the likes of PSG, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, yet none of these games will come close to playing Liverpool at home.
With Liverpool scouting Girona duo Viktor Tsygankov and Miguel Gutierrez earlier this season, the La Liga side have the quality to cause the Reds some real damage next week in what will be a must-win Champions League side for both teams.
And with Girona fans already chanting about Liverpool’s arrival, the Reds could expect a hostile welcome in Catalonia from their upcoming opponents, who have been waiting for this moment for quite some time this season.

Liverpool will be in the perfect physical state to take on Girona
Days off are hard to come by for any Premier League team in December, with Storm Darragh offering the Reds a unique and rare opportunity to rest and to recalibrate ahead of what is going to be a hectic few weeks for Slot’s side.
And heading to Girona on Tuesday, Liverpool will be in the perfect physical state to take on the La Liga revelation, with the Reds having a full weekend of rest to recover and to reset their legs before travelling to Catalonia.
Indeed, this weekend off could be huge for Liverpool in their bid to win the Premier League and Champions League, and a result on Tuesday against Girona could go a long way in Slot’s side winning silverware this season.
