West Ham United may look to test Juventus’ resolve in January in an attempt to former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, the Sunday Mirror has reported.

In the print version of the outlet (8 December, pg 65), it is reported that the Hammers will face competition from fellow Premier League side Fulham for his signature.

A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday (7 December) stated that the Irons were set to make an approach for the Brazilian midfielder, who signed for European heavyweights Juventus for a reported £42million.

Manager uncertainty could hinder January business for West Ham

Heading into the ‘El-Sackico’ between West Ham and Wolves, both managers are under serious pressure but perhaps Julen Lopetegui more than Gary O’Neil.

The Spaniard has caused a serious regression at the London Stadium since his appointment and the club have already lined up Michael Carrick as his potential replacement if they opt to sack him.

With that uncertainty in mind, any incoming in January could potentially be put off at the prospect of joining the club with no clear indication as to who the manager will be.

It seems quite remarkable that Lopetegui managed to survive the 3-1 hammering against Leicester, but defeat against Wolves would surely prove too detrimental to overlook for David Sullivan and a decision may have to be made.

Whatever that decision is, it must be made before January if the club are hopeful of utilising the next window to its full potential or that regression could continue.
