Mohamed Salah's 'new Liverpool contract terms' as Sky Sports star reveals what he's heard

Mohamed Salah has yet to agree on a new contract with Liverpool

Paul Merson revealed that Liverpool have tabled terms of a two-year contract plus a year option for Mohamed Salah to remain at Anfield.

The Egyptian's future has been up in the air throughout the season, given his contract, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, expires next summer.

The discussions surrounding whether his time at Liverpool may be coming to an end hasn't hampered the 32-year-old who looks on course to have one of his best seasons in red thus far.

Having already accrued 15 goals and 12 assists across all competitions with Liverpool top of the Premier League and Champions League, the winger is certainly aging well.

He's been outspoken when it comes to discussing his contract negotiations, admitting last month that he's yet to be offered a contract which he was called "selfish" for by Jamie Carragher.

While little has been revealed surrounding Salah's terms and what Liverpool may be willing to offer their talisman, Sky Sports pundit and ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson revealed what he's heard on the subject as he parted with new details on the contract saga.

"We're only hearing it on the grapevine, but we're hearing two years with a year option to Mo Salah," Merson said. "That's a long time. I'd give him 300-400 grand a week now. Of course, I would today because he's doing the business.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is unimpressed with Manchester United

Paul Merson revealed his insight on Liverpool's contract negotiations with Mohamed Salah

"I'm his biggest fan. I think he's world-class. I'll say he gets in every team in the world. He's a winger and he's top scorer in the Premier League. It's just absolutely amazing the numbers he puts up week in, week out, year in, year out.

"But in two-and-a-half years' time, that's a lot of money to be giving someone if they're not doing the business then. Football changes. If it didn't, we'd all still be playing still! The one sure thing that happens in football is the older you get, the slower you get.

"That's a fact. Otherwise, Usain Bolt would still be winning the Olympic 100 metres. For me, if it was a two-year contract, I'd give it to him, but I wouldn't give him the option of another year. I understand Liverpool 100 per cent.

"I know people will say they've got to buy someone and it will cost them more, but they will have to buy someone sooner or later. He's not going to go on until he's 40, 41 years of age, so you're only kicking it down the road."

Liverpool could end the week just four points ahead of Arsenal if they defeat Fulham in their trip to Craven Cottage on Sunday (December 8). The Reds' trip to Goodison Park on Saturday was postponed due to bad weather caused by Storm Darragh.
