Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Wigan Athletic attacker Thelo Aasgaard ahead of the opening of the January transfer window. Forest conducted what has proven to be a mightily impressive summer window, with Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic and Jota Silva all making impacts, as well as loan pair Alex Moreno and James Ward-Prowse.
Having begun the campaign so well, Forest may well look to top up their squad in January, in order to aid Nuno Espirito Santo's side's push up into the upper echelons of the Premier League table. To that end, there could be a value-for-money signing to be had a couple of divisions below.
Liverpool born forward Aasgaard, who has represented Norway at youth level, joined the Anfield academy at the age of eight before he moved to Wigan in his teens. Since making his first team debut in 2020, the 22-year-old has made 153 appearances for the Latics and he has contributed regularly in front of goal, netting 25 times in all and seven specifically this season.
The Sun reports that Forest have watched Aasgaard in action this season and that they are aware of his talent - as well as the sort of money that Wigan could demand, being as much as £3m. That reflects not only his ability and the investment in a player of Aasgaard's age, but also the fact that he only signed a long term contract in July 2023 - that runs until the summer of 2028.
Aasgaard has been a shining light this season for the Latics, who under Shaun Maloney sit down in 18th in League One and just two points above the relegation zone having lost their last couple of league matches. Aasgaard has scored five league goals, and has also struck in both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.
