Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has admitted he was surprised when his goal took Old Trafford by storm.
He had managed to regain the lead for the Midlands' side against Manchester United with a low shot that seemed to be heading straight for Andre Onana but swerved at the last moment and found the net, giving Forest an unexpected 2-1 lead.
This followed goals from Nikola Milenkovic and Rasmus Hojlund, while Chris Wood extended Forest's lead in the second half. Gibbs-White confessed he didn't anticipate scoring from such a distance, assuming it would be an easy save for Onana.
"I didn't at all to be fair, I don't wanna discredit Onana, he's a great keeper, incredible goalkeeper. But when I first took the shot, I thought he's just going to pick it up, but it went in. But you know, you count them don't you", he said. Despite Onana's mistake not aiding United's cause, Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim refused to blame the Cameroonian.
Instead, he commended his goalkeeper for his performances this season and called for overall team improvement. After the defeat, the Portuguese coach stated: "He (Onana) saved us a lot of times so we have to find a way to turn it around and score two goals to help our keeper for the way he, for example, saved us at Ipswich."
"We already knew it would be a long journey but we want to win. It's a massive job. We need to improve on a lot of things.", reports [the Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manutd-forest-onana-gibbswhite-amorim-34271742).
Onana and his Red Devils teammates are looking forward to bouncing back to their best form in the coming week.
First up, they face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City next weekend. Onana, 28, joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2023 from Italian heavyweights Inter Milan.
Since then, he has made 72 appearances for the club across all competitions, keeping 20 clean sheets.
