Formula One world champion Max Verstappen has made a stark admission about Liverpool and star defender Virgil van Dijk.

When the Dutchman is not racing he is often watching football, having been a supporter of PSV Eindhoven and Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United from a young age, citing fellow countrymen Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie as part of the reason for his choice.
However, it is his friendship with Liverpool captain Van Dijk that has led Verstappen to make a revelation when it comes to the Reds and their 33 year-old centre half.
Verstappen plans Anfield visit
Verstappen was speaking exclusively to the Mirror and discussed a whole range of football related topics, but it was his admiration for the Liverpool and for their Dutch stars which was most of note.
Revealing that he soon plans to come to Anfield for a match, Verstappen said: “Virgil keeps inviting me to come to a game and I will definitely do it. I'm not that idiot that hates another club. When I see Virgil play or Cody [Gakpo, who was at PSV], when they do well at Liverpool, that excites me as well.
“When they're leading in the league, I'm like, ‘Yeah, that's great’. They're having an amazing season. It's cool.”
Verstappen hopefully will know more about his pal Van Dijk’s contract situation than most, given the ongoing saga surrounding potential contract expirations at Liverpool. Anfield Watch exclusively reported that Van Dijk is staying at Liverpool, but a deal is yet to be officially announced.
