Mo Salah sends clear MESSAGE to Liverpool fans amid contract talks

With the 245th Merseyside Derby called off due to Storm Darragh, Mohamed Salah made sure to make the most of the unexpected time off.

The season so far has been nothing short of astonishing for Salah, as he looks on course to match if not better his notorious 2017/18 season. With 15 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, he is averaging over one goal involvement per 90 minutes.

With numbers so impressive, it does come as a slight shame that Saturday morning’s postponement of the Reds’ trip to Goodison Park means we will have to wait until Liverpool travel to Girona in the Champions League to see if Salah can continue his current hot streak.

Said postponement does however come as something of a blessing for Liverpool. Following the dramatic and often frustrating midweek draw away to Newcastle, Arne Slot’s side had the unenviable task of facing an Everton side in high spirits after their 4-0 win at home to Wolves.

An unexpected extra rest for the Reds can only be considered a good thing considering the evident tiredness felt by some players during the game up in the North East, part of a set of circumstances which conspired with Liverpool dropping points for the first time in over a month.

Salah would have been more than deserving of a restful time for his surprise day off, but instead spent time in the gym, as he posted on his Instagram story.

This should come as no shock, given Salah’s dedication and work ethic is what is helping him to post such impressive numbers despite his advancing years. Working in the gym despite the postponement is another indicator of how serious Salah is about keeping himself in top condition.

Not only is Salah's decision to post this a clear message to the supporters, reaffirming his commitment to winning the league title by keeping in fine fettle, but also making a more important point around his contract negotiations. Given Salah's desire to stay at the highest level of the game for as long as possible, it should assuage any fears that handing him a contract would see him have less motivation to continue this incredible intensity.

Statistically having helped Liverpool win more points in the Premier League this season than anybody else so far, Salah hitting the gym on his extra day off will keep him in the right condition to hopefully be responsible for more going forward.
