29-year-old big-money flop set for surprise new role at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola might consider deploying Jack Grealish in a new role at Manchester City as part of his strategy to spark a turnaround.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been a dominant force in Europe for some time now. But, of late, things have not been that great for them. The Spanish manager is going through one of the most difficult phases of his managerial career and in an attempt to turn things around, he could end up handing Jack Grealish a new role.

According to a report from Football Insider, Guardiola is considering using Grealish in a central role from here on. The English international partnered Ilkay Gundogan in central midfield during their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

The former Aston Villa star had an impressive outing, and the Spanish manager feels deploying him in a central role could help change Manchester City’s fortunes. The Premier League champions were on a seven-match winless run before the game against the Tricky Trees.

Grealish could be seen in central midfield

While they did get things back on track against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City ended up dropping points again when they faced Crystal Palace earlier this weekend. Grealish was on the bench for this one but going forward, he could be seen in central midfield on a consistent basis.

Rodri is out injured for the remainder of the season and with Oscar Bobb and Mateo Kovacic also unavailable, Guardiola surely has a lot to think about. The Manchester City boss is looking to come up with options to help his team bounce back, and playing Grealish in the centre of the park is something he is quite keen on doing.

While it will be a massive change for the £100 million signing, who has featured on the flanks for the majority of his career, his ability to carry the ball could come in handy from a deeper position in midfield. He could be the one who dictates the pace of the game.

Jack Grealish’s game time has taken a massive hit in recent seasons, and he is no longer the preferred choice out wide on the left. As a result, a new role could help him revive his Manchester City career.
