Wayne Rooney was reportedly told to undergo a strict diet routine on the orders of his wife Coleen ahead of her return from 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' duty.
The mother-of-four will leave the Australian Outback when she learns her fate in tonight's finale, with the 38-year-old one of the favourites to win on the show.
But she is already making preparations for her return to the UK after being left 'shocked' and 'worried' by the Manchester United icon's self-care during her absence.
The couple have been living apart since Wayne took over as Plymouth Argyle coach. While Rooney fights to save his job as the Championship outfit are struggling in a relegation battle, Coleen has been based at their Cheshire home 260 miles away.
She has had the difficult task of looking after their four sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass on her own. The young quartet visited her in the jungle, causing Coleen to burst into tears and vow not to leave her offspring.
But a report from Heat Magazine in September claimed Wayne's diet issues have caused a concern for her.
It comes after he made a recent visit, which gave the Wagatha Christie star 'a bit of a shock', according to a source quoted by the magazine back in September.
"Coleen got a bit of a shock when she saw Wayne recently. She's worried he's not taking enough care of himself now that he's living on his own," the source said.
"He was at the peak of his fitness during his football career Coleen made sure he ate healthily and he was always active, playing football with the boys."
"Now, she feels he's not prioritising his health, and worries that he's struggling to cope without her looking after him."
Coleen's solution was to put her husband on a diet and exercise regime before his 39th birthday in October.
Now she's coming out of the jungle, it remains to be seen if Wayne has shed any weight.
The source added: "She decided to put him on a bit of a health and fitness kick ahead of his 39th birthday next month, as she wants him to look and feel his best when they go away for a few days to celebrate."
Coleen has been working hard to ensure their marriage remains strong despite the long distance between them and revealed in an interview with the Mail on Sunday that it was her priority to remain at their £20million home.
After several weeks in the jungle, she will be in for a culture shock of her own after leaving off scraps she won in challenges and Bushtucker trials. She goes head-to-head with Danny Jones, Richard Coles and Coleen Rooney in Sunday's final Down Under.
