Struggling Liverpool star Darwin Nunez received sincere backing from legendary forward Mohamed Salah amid his continuous goal-scoring issues this season. The Reds drew 3-3 against Newcastle United in the Premier League clash at St James Park during their last game.
The game involved a few situations where Nunez had the opportunity to score a crucial goal but he unfortunately failed. The Uruguayan international has performed well and contributed consistently in the overall game for the Reds despite his scoring issues.
However, he delivered a sub-par performance against the Magpies which allowed the social media and football critics to attack him. Many consider this season as Nunez’s make-or-break season to maintain his place in the Merseyside club or leave for good.

Nevertheless, Salah and Nunez have enjoyed a strong partnership and chemistry which allowed the Egyptian to continue his prolific form. The duo have scored 16 goals combined from 96 games they have played together in all competitions at Liverpool.
Darwin scored five goals which Salah assisted while the Egyptian captain scored 11 goals assisted by the Uruguayan. Speaking to his friend Bahaa El Attar (via @SalahWorld11 on X), Salah stated that he enjoyed playing with Nunez the most since Roberto Firmino left. He said:
“Before it was Firmino, now it’s Nunez. I know a lot of people don’t like him but I enjoy playing beside him.”
The problem for Liverpool is that they are operating at the level where they need a lethal finisher up front. Liverpool cannot rely on Diogo Jota despite his lethality in front of goal, the 28-year-old has missed significant games.
Jota has suffered from injuries since signing from Wolves, missing 92 games for his club and country since joining Liverpool. The Reds need to decide their attacking option amid the struggle two of their forward are facing this season.

Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League but have no margin for error. While Nunez has enjoyed plenty of chances already, the Reds could potentially sign a forward to usurp him and replace the injury-prone Jota.
