'Very happy': Nuno says Nottingham Forest star is an unbelievable dressing room influence

Nottingham Forest won at Old Trafford for the first time in 30 years over the weekend, with a 3-2 secured as Storm Darragh took centre-stage at the Theatre of Dreams.

The game was threatened with a postponement earlier in the day. Also in the North West, Liverpool saw their trip to Everton cancelled amid safety fears with extremely high winds battering that part of the country.

It was Forest who got up a head of steam at Old Trafford though. Nikola Milenkovic scored with under two minutes on the clock, whilst Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood added goals after the break.

Jamie Redknapp heaped praise on Nuno Espirito Santo after the game and the result sees Forest move up to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Wood has now etched his name at the top of the list in terms of Premier League goals scored for Forest and his performance levels are currently extremely high.

What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Forest star Chris Wood

Wood has 10 goals to his name this season and Forest have one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League in their dressing room.

Espirito Santo has given Wood a new lease of life and it’s pretty clear that he’s the Reds’ number one talisman with Taiwo Awoniyi now out of the reckoning.

After his latest goalscoring heroics, Espirito Santo piled praise on Wood and revealed that he was happy to have the player within his ranks.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “We are very happy to have Chris with us. He is an example for the young lads to follow because it is never too late to achieve good things in football.

“He is a good example to everybody and we are very happy to have him.”

Wood can reach 100 club if Forest give him a new contract

Forest are considering giving Wood a new deal at the club with his contract due to expire during the summer.

The player who turned 33-years-old yesterday is in the form of his career and right now, he’d be a very useful player to tie down.

After his strike yesterday, Wood is not just 21 goals away from joining the Premier League’s 100 club and he can’t be discounted from reaching that target.

Espirito Santo deserves a lot of credit for placing his faith in Wood’s ability and hopefully, the Forest striker can keep repaying that as the season progresses.
