Arsenal defender William Saliba has provided a major boost to the club by pledging his long-term future to the Gunners. The French centre-back, a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s resurgent squad, dismissed speculation linking him to Real Madrid, emphasising his deep connection to the club and its community.
Saliba, 23, has emerged as one of the world’s top defenders since joining Arsenal from Saint-Étienne in 2019 for £27 million. Although initially sent on loan to Saint-Étienne, Nice, and Marseille, he has now become a pivotal figure for Arteta, making 102 appearances and contributing significantly to the club’s recent successes.

The towering 6’3” defender reaffirmed his loyalty following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United, in which he scored. Speaking about his future, Saliba said:“Yeah, of course, I feel at home. I signed for the club five years ago, but it’s only my third season, and I’m enjoying everything—the players, the staff, and the fans. I feel at home, so of course, why not?”

Saliba made these comments during a visit to Ashmount Primary School in Islington, where he and goalkeeper Neto engaged with young fans as part of Arsenal’s community outreach program. The France international played football with the children, answered their questions, and joined a reading class, highlighting the club’s strong ties to the local community.

Reflecting on the experience, Saliba said: “We’re so happy to be involved in this type of project. When you love football, you want to meet players like us. I never had the chance when I was younger, so it’s good to give back and stay connected to our local community. Their support inspires us every time we step onto the pitch. We’ve all been in their place when we were young, and from day one here, I saw how much Arsenal does for the kids.”
With Spanish giants Real Madrid reportedly making Saliba their top summer target, his public commitment is a welcome reassurance for Arsenal as the club looks to build on its current momentum under Arteta.
