Arsenal defender William Saliba has urged his teammates to remain focused and draw on their recent experiences as they aim to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool. The Gunners currently trail by seven points but have a chance to narrow the deficit to four when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, have been formidable this season, dropping points in only three games and boasting the league’s best defensive record. However, their recent match against Everton was postponed due to safety concerns arising from Storm Darragh, offering Arsenal an opportunity to apply pressure in the title race.

Despite the gap, Saliba emphasised that the Gunners are not overly concerned about their position, with two-thirds of the season still to play. Speaking to The Mirror, the French international said: “Everything is possible. The season is very long, and we’ve experienced that in the past two years. We just have to focus on ourselves. We’re still only in December, so there are a lot of things that can happen.”

Arsenal’s strong defensive form has been a key factor in their campaign so far, with only Liverpool conceding fewer goals in the first 13 matches. Saliba, who has formed a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhães at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, praised his teammate but acknowledged the importance of winning silverware to cement their legacy.

“Since the day I first played with him, I’ve enjoyed every game. He’s a massive, massive defender that is so good in every aspect,” Saliba said of Gabriel. “But if we want to be all-time great defenders, where everyone remembers us, we have to win some trophies. We haven’t done it yet, but we will give everything to achieve that.”
With a critical period of the season approaching, Arsenal will be eager to capitalise on any opportunity to close the gap on Liverpool, keeping their title hopes alive.
