West Ham star Michail Antonio has undergone surgey on a lower-limb fracture after his horrifying crash during Storm Darragh on Saturday.

Images emerged of Antonio's wrecked Ferrari after the striker had been cut free and taken to hospital. He will certainly miss Monday night's huge clash with fellow strugglers Wolves.

But the Hammers' focus is on Antonio's health after his scary incident in Theydon Bois, Essex. The club have confirmed that Antonio was involved in the incident and is now stable in hospital.

Crash on a 'slippery road'

According to The Sun, Antonio crashed on a 'very slippery' road while driving his Ferrari. The Jamaican international was travelling during Storm Darragh when his car 'spun out of control'.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were called at 1.02pm on Saturday after Antonio smashed into a tree at around 12.50pm. Photos taken at the scene show extensive damage to the right hand side of the grey Ferrari.

A witness claimed the crash was caused by extreme weather conditions. They told The Sun: "It was awful weather, rain, wind and very slippery on the road. It didn't look like another car was involved. It looked like it had spun out of control. I only found out later who he was. I hope he's OK."

Antonio rescued as ex-wife races to hospital

Emergency services fought for 55 minutes to free Antonio from his wrecked car. The Ferrari had the right wing ripped off, the door missing and the windscreen demolished.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance service all attended. An ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle, rapid response vehicle and a response car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

Antonio crashed around 12.50pm, with the striker not being freed until 1.45pm. He was then taken to hospital in central London by road.

Antonio's ex-wife Debbie Whittle rushed from her home in Manchester to be with him. According to The Sun, she travelled from her house all the way down to London to be at his bedside. Antonio met Whittle in 2011 and the pair share four children - but they divorced shortly after the birth of the youngest.

Essex Police's Road Investigations Unit are now investigating how the accident occurred. They are appealing for dash cam footage of what is is believed to be a single vehicle collision.

Essex Police said in a statement: "Officers investigating a serious collision in Epping are asking for witnesses and dash cam footage. We were called shortly after 12.50pm on Saturday 7 December to Coppice Row, Epping, following reports of what is believed to be a single vehicle collision involving a Ferrari.

"Emergency services attended and the driver has been taken to hospital. The vehicle has been recovered and we are no longer on scene. An investigation will be carried out by our Roads Policing Unit.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us. Please quote incident 605 of 7 December when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible. Alternatively, please email the investigating officer, PS Mark Hewitt."

West Ham's latest update

West Ham confirmed on Sunday that Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower-limb fracture. A club statement read: "West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.

"Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days. Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news.

"As well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery. The Club will provide further updates when appropriate."
