Chelsea and Arsenal interested in Brazilian defender

Chelsea will aim to continue their impressive run of form when they face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Enzo Maresca’s side have won their last three Premier League games by an aggregate score of 10-2, and their run of victories have seen them move as high as second in the table.

With leaders Liverpool not playing this weekend after the Merseyside derby was postponed, a win over Spurs on Sunday would move the Blues four points behind the Reds.

In the meantime, it appears that Chelsea are one of a number of clubs interested in a Brazilian defender.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, both Chelsea and London rivals Arsenal are interested in Palmeiras centre-back Vitor Reis.

The 18-year-old has played 22 times for the Brazilian club at senior level since breaking into the first team squad, and Plettenberg claims that both the Gunners and the Blues are keeping tabs on the player with a view to potentially making a move to sign him next summer.

Reis has attracted interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal

Reis is under contract with Palmeiras until 2028, which suggests the Brazilian side will be under very little pressure to sell him next year.

The defender featured regularly for his side during the second half of the recent Brazilian top flight campaign, and his impressive displays in the centre of defence have alerted two of London’s biggest sides.

Since being taken over by American owners in 2022, Chelsea have adopted a policy of signing talented young players from all over the world, particularly South America.

The former Brazil Under-17 international therefore fits into the profile of player that the West London side have been targeting over the past couple of years.
