Real Madrid's official squad list for next week's must-win clash against Atalanta had surprises when it was published on Sunday because of two star players returning to fitness.
Madrid revealed that Ballon d'Or runner-up Vinicius Jr. suffered "an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg" through an official statement published on November 25.
It came the day after he played the full 90 minutes against Getafe in a 2-0 win at Butarque, and therefore ruled the Brazilian out of a loss by the same scoreline to Liverpool in the Champions League a few days later.
MARCA reported that Vinicius could be out of action for up to a month.
This weekend, however, following a 3-0 triumph for Los Blancos at Girona which moved them within two points of bitter rival FC Barcelona in the La Liga title race, several reports provided photographic evidence of Vinicius being back in training way ahead of schedule.
In quick succession, Madrid then published its squad list which showed Vini's name alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Brahim Diaz, Endrick and Rodrygo - who was cut from the Girona travelling contingent at the last minute - in the attackers section.
Post-match after the Girona win, Ancelotti wasn't asked about Vinicius but did have to field a question about Rodrygo.
"He wasn't feeling well, so we preferred to leave him in Valdebebas working. I think he will be there on Tuesday," Ancelotti said, which has now proven true.
We know that Jude Bellingham will be in Bergamo too despite being substituted at Montilivi off the back of a goal and assist.
Yet Ferland Mendy won't thanks to a right quadriceps confirmed by Madrid on Sunday afternoon.
It is doubtful that either Vinicius or Rodrygo will start in Atalanta to partner Kylian Mbappe up front, though.
In Girona, Ancelotti put Mbappe up front on his own supported by a midfield three of Jude Bellingham, Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler.
All but Brahim netted at the Catalans' expense, and a similar approach could be taken by the Italian tactician against his country's current league leaders.
After it lost three matches already on the continent this term, the clash is key to Madrid defending its UCL title won at Wembley back in June.
